Fasting Mimicking Diet with ProLon®

The fasting-mimicking diet with ProLon® is a five-day, plant-based nutrition program designed to produce some of the metabolic responses associated with fasting while allowing a limited intake of food.

At OWM Integrative Wellness, the program may be considered within an individualized nutrition and metabolic health plan. Your provider assesses whether a period of dietary restriction is appropriate for your health, medications, and goals before recommending a cycle.

Understanding the Program

A structured approach to fasting
ProLon provides pre-portioned foods, beverages, and supplements for five consecutive days. Its calorie and nutrient composition is designed to influence how the body responds to reduced food intake, offering a defined protocol rather than an open-ended fast.

Metabolic health
Human studies of repeated fasting-mimicking diet cycles have reported changes in body weight and selected metabolic markers, including insulin resistance and liver fat in some participants. These findings are promising, but individual results vary and do not establish that every five-day cycle will produce the same benefits.

Cellular maintenance
Fasting research includes the study of autophagy, a process through which cells break down and recycle their own components. Its role in human health continues to be investigated. Completing ProLon should not be understood as a guarantee of cellular regeneration, detoxification, or increased lifespan.

The OWM Approach

Assessing suitability
Your consultation considers your nutritional status, medical history, current medications, and relationship with food. Particular care is needed when dietary restriction could affect blood sugar, medication safety, or adequate nourishment.

Setting clear goals
The program is discussed in the context of your broader health plan. Your provider helps establish realistic expectations and determines whether any repeat cycles warrant consideration.

Reviewing progress
When useful, OWM may incorporate body-composition assessment, resting metabolic rate testing, or other monitoring. These measurements provide context for your care; ketone readings or short-term weight changes alone do not demonstrate tissue renewal or lasting fat loss.

The Five-Day Experience

Each day follows the foods and quantities provided in the program. Before you begin, your team explains how to prepare, what to expect, and when to pause the program or seek medical advice.

Hunger, fatigue, headache, or lightheadedness may occur during calorie restriction. Activity and medication recommendations should be reviewed with your provider rather than adjusted independently.

After the five-day cycle, you transition back to regular meals according to the program’s guidance. Follow-up can help translate the experience into sustainable eating habits that support your ongoing nutritional needs.

Supplement considerations
Any accompanying supplement, including NAD-related or spermidine products, is reviewed separately for its purpose, suitability, and potential interactions. Combining products does not establish greater cellular renewal or improved results.

Individual Considerations

Fasting-mimicking diets are not appropriate for everyone. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, underweight, malnutrition, an eating-disorder history, and certain medical conditions may make the program unsuitable.

People taking diabetes medication or undergoing cancer treatment require specific medical guidance. Fasting during oncology care remains a specialized research area and should not be undertaken without the treating team’s involvement.
