Women’s Metabolic and Body Composition Testing

Metabolic & Body Composition Testing at OWM Integrative Wellness helps women understand changes in energy needs, muscle mass, body fat, and physical fitness. Whether you are navigating perimenopause, menopause, changing exercise habits, or persistent difficulty managing weight, these assessments provide information beyond the number on the scale.

We interpret your results alongside your symptoms, hormonal stage, nutrition, sleep, and medical history to develop recommendations that support strength, energy, and long-term health.

Core Assessments

Resting Metabolic Rate Testing
RMR testing uses indirect calorimetry—measurement of respiratory gases—to estimate how much energy your body uses at rest. We combine this information with your activity level and goals to guide nutrition recommendations.

For women concerned about weight changes, the results can help us develop an appropriate eating plan that accounts for energy needs and muscle preservation. Respiratory measurements also provide information about fat and carbohydrate utilization during the test, rather than identifying a permanent “fat-burning zone.”

Preparing for Your Test
Our preparation protocol requires avoiding food and exercise for at least four hours before testing. We provide instructions for caffeine and other factors that may affect results. If coffee is permitted under your specific protocol, the same routine should be maintained before repeat assessments.

InBody Composition Analysis
InBody estimates muscle mass, body fat percentage, and body water distribution. These measurements help us follow changes that body weight alone may conceal, including muscle gain during strength training or muscle loss during weight reduction.

For women in midlife and beyond, maintaining muscle is an important consideration in nutrition and exercise planning. InBody can help monitor this goal, although a scan alone does not diagnose sarcopenia.

Preparing for Your Scan
Our protocol requires avoiding food and exercise for four hours beforehand. Consistent hydration and testing conditions help make repeat measurements more comparable.

VO₂ Max Exercise Testing
VO₂ max testing measures oxygen uptake during treadmill or stationary bicycle exercise to assess cardiorespiratory fitness. We use the findings to guide training intensity and establish a baseline for endurance.

Your recommendations reflect your current fitness, symptoms, and goals, whether you are returning to exercise, building stamina, or maintaining an active lifestyle. The assessment informs cardiovascular conditioning rather than predicting your individual lifespan.

Nutrition & Additional Monitoring

Cronometer Dietary Tracking
We use RMR findings and relevant clinical information to establish individualized nutrition targets, including adequate protein and energy intake. Food records in Cronometer help our team identify patterns and make practical adjustments.

This is particularly useful when your goals include improving body composition while supporting strength, recovery, and nutritional adequacy.

Biosense Breath Ketone Monitoring
Biosense measures breath acetone as an indirect indicator of ketosis. It may be incorporated into selected ketogenic or fasting protocols, with results interpreted alongside dietary intake and clinical needs. Ketone readings do not directly measure fat loss or overall metabolic flexibility.

Nutrition Genome DNA Testing
Nutrition Genome examines genetic variants associated with nutrient metabolism and other biological pathways. We consider the findings alongside your diet, symptoms, and laboratory results when developing recommendations.

Genetic information can add context, but it does not determine one ideal diet or establish that a nutrition plan switches disease pathways off.

Biological Clock Testing
DNA methylation testing estimates biological age relative to chronological age. It may provide an additional reference point for monitoring, although changes in the estimate do not independently demonstrate reversal of aging or improved health.

Personalized Planning for Women

Your results help us prioritize recommendations for nutrition, resistance training, cardiovascular exercise, and recovery. When symptoms suggest a hormonal or other medical concern, we coordinate further assessment rather than attributing every change in weight or energy to metabolism.

RMR testing, VO₂ max testing, InBody scans, Nutrition Genome testing, Biological Clock testing, and Cronometer tracking form the core assessment suite described within the Optimal Life by OWM Annual Membership.

Follow-up focuses on meaningful changes in strength, fitness, body composition, energy, and daily well-being, with your plan adjusted as your needs evolve.
