Hormones influence everything from energy and sleep to mood, metabolism, and overall well-being. When they’re out of balance, even small changes can affect how you feel throughout the day.
At OWM Integrative Wellness, hormone testing helps us better understand your body’s unique hormonal patterns. Through specialized diagnostic testing and personalized clinical evaluation, we look beyond symptoms to help guide informed decisions about your hormonal health.
What Is Hormone Testing?
Hormone testing measures the levels of specific hormones in your body and, with certain tests, how those hormones are processed.
At OWM, we use a combination of laboratory assessments to explore hormonal changes, identify potential concerns, and guide individualized treatment plans.
Testing may include bloodwork, urine, saliva, or genetic assessments, depending on your symptoms and clinical needs.
What Types of Hormone Testing Does OWM Offer?
DUTCH Hormone Testing: Uses dried urine samples to evaluate certain sex hormones, hormone metabolites, and daily cortisol patterns. It may provide additional information about hormone metabolism, although it is not required to determine the safety of hormone replacement therapy.
ZRT Laboratory Testing: Offers specialized saliva and urine testing to assess selected hormone levels and endocrine function. Your provider determines whether these tests are appropriate for your needs.
Nutrition Genome DNA Testing: Examines genetic variations associated with hormone metabolism, nutrient processing, and other biological functions. These results may provide supplementary information, but genetic testing alone cannot establish whether hormone therapy is safe or appropriate.
Ongoing Hormone Monitoring: Follow-up testing helps evaluate treatment response and guide appropriate adjustments. Depending on the prescribed therapy, monitoring may occur every three to six months or at another clinically appropriate interval.
What Are the Benefits of Hormone Testing?
When appropriately selected, hormone testing can help:
- Identify hormonal changes: Evaluate possible contributors to fatigue, mood changes, sleep disturbances, or other symptoms.
- Guide personalized care: Help determine whether hormone therapy or other interventions may be appropriate.
- Monitor treatment: Assess hormone levels and treatment response over time.
- Support informed decisions: Provide objective information to complement your symptoms and medical history.
Who May Benefit From Hormone Testing?
Hormone testing may be considered for individuals experiencing:
- Changes in energy, sleep, or mood
- Perimenopause or menopause symptoms
- Low libido or changes in sexual well-being
- Menstrual irregularities
- Symptoms suggesting testosterone deficiency
- Other concerns potentially related to hormonal health
Testing is recommended based on your symptoms, health history, and clinical evaluation.
What to Expect
Your experience begins with a conversation about your symptoms, lifestyle, health history, and personal goals.
The OWM clinical team determines which tests are appropriate and review your results in the context of your overall health.
For patients considering Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) or testosterone therapy, evaluation includes appropriate laboratory testing and medical screening. Testing requirements depend on the treatment and individual risk factors.
