Supporting Fuller, Thicker-Looking Hair
In pattern hair loss, follicles gradually become smaller and produce finer, shorter strands. PRP may help improve hair density and strand thickness in suitable patients, particularly when thinning areas still contain active follicles.
Treatment focuses on:
- Improving the appearance of thinning areas, supporting greater scalp coverage over time.
- Supporting existing follicles, with the aim of encouraging healthier hair growth.
- Increasing hair thickness and density, where follicles remain responsive to treatment.
- Offering a nonsurgical option, with limited interruption to your daily routine.
Results develop gradually and depend on the cause, extent, and duration of hair loss.
The OWM Approach
Before recommending PRP, we review your pattern of hair loss, medical history, and potential contributing factors. Blood work helps us evaluate issues such as nutritional deficiencies or hormonal changes that may require additional care.
When appropriate, we incorporate nutritional support or treatment of an identified hormonal condition into your plan. This allows us to address contributing health concerns while treating the scalp directly.
The Treatment Experience
We begin with a small blood draw, then use a double-spin centrifugation process to prepare concentrated platelet-rich plasma. After numbing the treatment area, we inject the preparation into selected regions of the scalp using fine needles.
Appointments generally take 30–60 minutes, depending on the size of the area. Numbing and careful injection techniques help improve comfort, although temporary tenderness, swelling, bruising, or pinpoint bleeding can occur.
Because PRP comes from your own blood, exposure to donor material is avoided; the procedure still carries risks, including infection and reactions to other materials used during treatment.
Your Treatment Plan & Results
Our initial plan generally includes at least three sessions spaced approximately one month apart, followed by maintenance treatments around twice a year when appropriate. We adjust this schedule according to your response and ongoing needs.
Hair growth takes time, so changes in density and thickness are assessed over the months following treatment. Follow-up appointments help us review progress and determine whether additional support would benefit your plan.
PRP hair restoration is generally considered a cosmetic treatment and is typically not covered by insurance. We review pricing and the recommended schedule before you begin.
