How PRP Saved the Race

Jun 27, 2023

Eric Lux, a professional racecar driver, shares how the Platelet Rich Plasma therapy he received at OWM Integrative Wellness in Buffalo, NY allowed him to heal quickly enough to compete in one of his favorite races, the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Eric Lux is a 35-year-old Buffalo Native who races cars to satisfy what he says has been a need for speed since he was about seven years old. It all started when his dad and mom bought him his first go-kart.

Perhaps you have heard of Eric, as he grew up racing in the Western New York area at Batavia Motorsports Park. Early on he had support from local companies, but his racing was clearly above average, which won him a scholarship to racing school when he was thirteen. Fast forward and he was being sponsored by Porsche MotorSports.

The pro-racing journey has kept him busy for 19 seasons. In December 2022 Eric suffered an ankle injury that threatened to keep him from racing the 24 Hours of Daytona that was weeks away. Eric’s doctors said he would have to miss the race because recovery would take at least 6 to 8 weeks. But Eric was not about to miss one of his favorite races. He did some research and learned about the different therapies which could potentially speed up his recovery time. One such therapy was Platelet Rich Plasma therapy (PRP) and it was available at OWM Integrative Wellness, a wellness center that had excellent reviews. He figured he had nothing to lose and scheduled his PRP therapy.

Eric describes the treatment in layman’s terms. “They basically take your blood out, put it in a centrifuge and re-inject it into the affected areas. My understanding is that it helps those areas recover at a faster rate with the blood going to the specific site of the injury. By day two he could see a noticeable difference. Eric said, “I think that what stood out most about Dr. Kaplan’s approach with PRP is it’s still relatively new, at least in this area of the country, and there are not too many other doctors that are willing to go beyond the textbook that they’ve learned and explore options.” To hear more of what Eric had to say about his treatment, click here.

The best news of all followed. Within two weeks he was 95% and able to race – a recovery time frame that was light years away from what other doctors were projecting with more conventional treatment.

Eric wants others to know that OWM has innovative therapies that can help speed up the healing process. Three months after the ankle injury Eric is 100%. Eric said, “It’s been great. I also go to Dr. Kaplan for vitamins and IVs.” He added that the immune boosting IVs are great to have during flu season and especially beneficial when traveling during the busy racing season.

Eric’s recommendation: “If you aren’t happy with the solutions you’re offered or if you need to recover in a tighter time frame than you’re hearing, at least give OWM Integrative Wellness a call and see what they can do for you. I would say there’s a good chance they can help you.” To schedule an appointment call 716.453.2252 or visit to learn more.
