Optimize Your Brain Health at a Brain Spa

Optimize Your Brain Health at a Brain Spa

Jun 5, 2023

Your brain has the power to heal itself and your body, but it often needs help to function at its full potential. Introducing Brain Spa by OWM. Our proprietary brain spa includes four innovative experiences to optimize your brain’s function and cognition.

You go to a spa to both pamper and improve the health of your body. At OWM Integrative Wellness, located in Buffalo, New York, our brain spa does the same for your brain.

Our brain spa experience is both pleasurable and healing. Its primary goal is to optimize your brain’s full potential by promoting repair and growth of new connections. Here’s a closer look.

What is a Brain Spa by OWM?

The brain is the most active organ in the body and unlike our bodies, the brain never shuts down. It is even more active when we sleep than when we’re awake, promoting repair and experience consolidation and integration from the day before. To do this it requires large amounts of energy. As our stress increases so does the brain activity.  Often persistent stress places the brain in the fight or flight mode, at which point the brain becomes hyperactive. In this state, its ability to reduce inflammation and undergo repair is compromised.

It is now understood that this perpetual state of hyperactivity and inflammation leads to poor cognition and increases the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr Leonard Kaplan, founder of OWM Integrative Wellness developed Brain Spa by OWM to help his clients break out of the fight or flight mode, reduce brain inflammation, and promote brain repair.  Brain Spa by OWM was carefully designed to incorporate four key elements to accomplish this.

1. Virtual reality guided experiences

Age and disease affect your brain and cause cognitive decline, including memory loss, brain fog, disorientation, speech challenges, and diminished critical-thinking skills.  This is a result of inflammatory changes, poor nerve connectivity and fight and flight related brain hyperactivity. However, studies show that virtual reality (VR) may help restore essential cognitive functions by slowing down the hyperactive mind. This allows the brain to engage in more productive strategies such as creating “memory palaces” to improve recall.

Studies have found that using mindfulness games such as TRIPP and focus games such as VR Tetris can positively change the brain’s cortical thickness, translating to better brain function. Both types of experiences can either reduce or eliminate the fight or flight response, allowing for initiation of repair and inflammation reduction. Our VR therapy allows you to have a fully immersive experience.  This level of immersion not only helps promote overall brain health, but it also enhances focus, concentration, and problem-solving skills, which can positively affect your cognitive abilities.

2. Ceremonial cacao and medicinal mushrooms elixir

Our commitment to integrative solutions means incorporating a mix of Western and Eastern traditional and modern techniques.

One such treatment comes from tropical South America — ceremonial cacao. It has high magnesium levels, a known natural relaxant that can deactivate adrenaline. Ceremonial-grade cacao also contains plenty of phenols and flavonoids — two powerful antioxidants — and serotonin, a mood enhancer.

Another brain-friendly nutritional therapy is medicinal mushrooms. Drawing on Traditional Chinese Practices used by physicians throughout history, here at Brain Spa by OWM we include reishi, lion’s mane, and cordyceps to address cognitive decline issues. They may even improve your immunity, physical endurance, and sexual energy.

3. Intravenous infusion

A brain under stress utilizes large amounts of nutrients to maintain function. Often the body is unable to keep up with the supply and the brain becomes malnourished. In that state the brain cannot repair and eliminate inflammation effectively.

When nutrient deficiencies affect your brain health and cognitive function, intravenous (IV) infusions may be your solution. Our proprietary blends of essential vitamins, amino acids, peptides and minerals via IV directly deliver what you lack to your bloodstream.

Our IV brain food contains therapeutic levels of:

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin B
  • Cerebrolysin
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc
  • Glycine
  • Taurine
  • Proline
  • Glutathione
  • Vitamin B12

These nutrients help regenerate brain tissue and rejuvenate brain power.

4. Recovery leg compression sleeves

The essential nutrients you need are delivered to the brain by your circulation system. Your brain relies on your network of arteries to deliver oxygenated, nutrient rich blood and veins and lymphatics to take away inflammatory waste products, so if anything hinders that process, your brain may show signs of slowing.

Brain Spa by OWM addresses this with segmental leg compression sleeves by NormaTec®. These innovative recovery leg compression sleeves enhance circulation, reduce inflammation, and decrease blood pooling in the lower extremities.

By facilitating increased blood flow, recovery leg compression sleeves deliver more oxygen and nutrients to your brain, allowing it to function at its best. In addition, reducing inflammation in your legs can also decrease inflammation in your brain through improved waste product elimination, meaning improved cognitive function.

With these 4 components you can optimize your brain and address multiple conditions including anxiety, depression, PTSD, concussions, sleep disturbance and irregular sleep patterns, general fatigue, brain fog and low productivity as well as  irritable bowel syndrome.
